The West Virginia JCI Senate formed in 1971 to allow Senators to maintain friendships developed in the Jaycees, and to assist in their efforts to support the WV Junior Chamber. It is affiliated with the US JCI Senate and consists of dues-paid members who are current or former residents of West Virginia.
Its dues-paid members receive the US JCI Senate magazine, MENTORS and the WV JCI newsletter, both published quarterly. All members, regardless of their dues status, are invited to participate in Senate activities.
In addition to hosting numerous social functions, the West Virginia JCI Senate conducts various activities to assist the WVJC and its member chapters. Administration of the Outstanding Young West Virginians program, competition and award judging and the “Return the Favor” program are but a few ways in which JCI Senators continue to assist the WV Jaycees.
What is a Senator? A JCI Senatorship, usually bestowed by a member’s chapter, is the highest individual honor that can be given to a Jaycee or former Jaycee. It is awarded to individuals in recognition for outstanding contributions to the Junior Chamber on the local, state, national and international level. A senatorship is very rare with fewer than one in a thousand Jaycees being given the honor. Local chapters use Senators as a resource, relying on their experience and contacts in helping the Jaycees stay “healthy”.
